Biographical note:
Donna Broderick Gavac received a B.A. from George Fox College in 1948; an M.A. from the University of Michigan; and a Ph.D. from the University of Portland in 1960. She began working for the University of Alaska System in late 1971 at Anchorage Community College. Her positions at that institution included: history professor; Director of Evening Programs; Director of Academic Programs; Director of Transfer Studies; and Director of the Office of Educational Development. During the period 1973-1976, Dr. Gavac was a member of the Statewide Steering Committee for the University of Alaska Academic Development Plan. She served as Acting Dean of Anchorage Community College for 10 months during 1976; and served as the first Chairperson of the UAA Archives Advisory Committee in 1980. Dr. Gavac was involved with Anchorage Community College during the formation of the Alaska Federation of Teachers Union. She served on the boards of the Alaska Festival of Music and the Anchorage Civic Opera during the 1970s. Dr. Gavac retired from the University of Alaska System in 1982.

The collection consists of Donna Broderick Gavac’s papers concerning University of Alaska administration, faculty affairs, educational planning, and teachers union negotiations during her tenure as an academic administrator at Anchorage Community College.
