Historical note:
Janet Goetz was a long time resident of Anchorage. In the 1960s-1970s, she began a transcription and translation project of several diaries held by the Anchorage Museum written by a Susitna Valley homesteader and trapper, a German immigrant named Fred Winter.

Collection description:
This collection consists of transcriptions and translations of some of the Fred Winter diaries. It also includes some of Janet Goetz’s translation notes and a few personal business notes as well.

Arrangement: Materials are primarily in chronological order by date of the original diary.

Digitized copies: This collection has not been digitized. For information about obtaining digital copies, please contact Archives and Special Collections.

Use restrictions: Users wishing to publish any materials from the collection should request permission from the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center.

Custodial history: On behalf of the Goetz estate, the transcripts and translations were presented to the Anchorage Library Foundation.
