Organizational history:
The British Women’s Club of Anchorage was open to women from Commonwealth countries or of Commonwealth descent. The Club sponsored regular social activities and engaged in civic fundraising events as well.
Collection description:
The collection consists of several scrapbooks and a guest book. The scrapbooks cover the years of 1965-1983 and include photographs of club events, some meeting minutes, event invitations, correspondence, and newspaper clippings. Events included a regular celebration of the Queen’s birthday, summer picnics, and other commemorative events. The majority of the materials in the scrapbooks dates from 1981 to 1983. The guest book is from two events held in October 1967 and 1968.
Arrangement: The scrapbooks are roughly in chronological order.
