Collection description:
The collection contains 628 color slides taken by Bob and Marie Logan that date from circa 1945-1962. Most of the slides were taken in 1962, and subjects include a flight tour around the state with the U. S. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, the salmon fishing industry at King Salmon, aerial photographs of glaciers and towns such as Anchorage, Cordova, Valdez, and Fairbanks, military personnel of the Alaskan Air Command and the United States Army Arctic Test Board at Fort Greely, and Mount McKinley National Park. These also include a significant number of images of Barrow and Kotzebue, depicting blanket tosses, Alaska Natives, sled dogs, and walrus hunting. Other Alaska-related slides in the collection include a series labeled “John’s photos” that date from circa 1953-1962 and contains images of Glacier Bay and other Alaska locations. There are also slides depicting a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France in 1958 where Pope Pius XII appeared to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Marian apparitions, as well as slides of the 1962 World’s Fair in Seattle.
