Biographical note:
Richard N. “Dick” Sundquist was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1896. He left Chicago as a child to join his father in the mining camp at Candle Creek, Alaska. He married Beulah A. Eaden of Issaquah, Washington in 1931. Sundquist was a Republican member of the Alaska Territorial House of Representatives from 1925-1929 and served in the Territorial Senate from 1929-1933, representing Candle. Richard Sundquist died in Seattle in 1967.

Collection description:
This collection contains a handwritten letter from miner Richard N. Sundquist in Candle, Alaska, to attorney Fred B. Houghton in Chicago, Illinois. In the letter, dated September 30th, Sundquist acknowledges receipt of Houghton’s previous letter and expresses his intention to remain in Alaska in order to develop a mining prospect with his father, Laro Antone Sundquist. The envelope cover, addressed from Sundquist to Houghton in was postmarked in Unalakleet on March 6, 1923.
