Biographical note:
Susan Ruddy moved to Alaska in 1964. Ruddy established The Nature Conservancy’s Alaska Chapter, served as an environmental mediator with the Mediation Institute, acted as Alaska Field Representative for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and directed the Providence Alaska Foundation where she championed for the establishment of the Providence Cancer Center. She served as a board member for the Smithsonian National Board, Commonwealth North, and the Providence Region Board. Ruddy also served as Vice Chancellor of University Advancement at UAA from 2000-2005.
Collection description:
A majority of the collection relates to the Iditarod, including photographs, news clippings used for research, and a short history, “The Iditarod,” written by Ruddy and Neil Menschel. The collection also includes files regarding the Admiralty Island land dispute and new rule regulations for Anuktuvuk Pass, Alaska.
