Biographical note:
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond H. Taylor were from Canastota, New York. They took the American Agriculturist Alaska Tour, from August 8 to September 5, 1956. Their railroad and steamship tour began at Syracuse, New York. The primary destinations of the tour included Yellowstone and Mount Rainier National Parks in the United States, Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada, and Southeast Alaska. Places visited during their tour included: Chicago, Yellowstone National Park, Multnomah Falls, Portland, Seattle, Tacoma, Mount Rainier National Park, Vancouver (B.C.), Ketchikan, Skagway, Lake Louise, Banff, and Jasper. Travel was aboard the Northern Pacific Railroad, the Canadian Pacific Railway, the S. S. Chilcotin of Union Steamships Limited (Vancouver to Skagway), and the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway (Skagway to Whitehorse).
Collection description:
The collection consists of the tourist scrapbook of Arabella and Raymond H. Taylor. The scrapbook contains: letters, brochures, menus, newsletters, place mats, napkins, stationery, tickets, receipts, post cards, other various memorabilia, and photographs. The letters include correspondence concerning reservations and payments for the tour, and five letters the Taylors received from friends while on the tour. The photographs consist of one black and white and 64 color prints. The black and white print is a large group photo of the tour participants taken on the grounds of Banff Springs Hotel. The color photographs are small Kodacolor (red-shifted) and other prints of scenes of Yellowstone National Park, Multnomah Falls, Bonneville Dam, Mount Rainier National Park, the White Pass and Yukon Route Railway, the Inside Passage, Chateau Lake Louise, and other unidentified places.
