Biographical note:
Ruth Huseman, Rhea Brunwasser, and a group of women from the Midwestern United States toured Western Canada and Southeast Alaska in 1937. Huseman died in Chicago, Illinois, in 1988.
Collection description:
The collection contains Ruth Huseman’s 1937 photograph album of her trip to Western Canada and Southeast Alaska. Modes of travel on the trip included the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad, bus, and steamship travel on the Inside Passage. The collection contains photographs, photo post cards, and commercial tourist prints. Locations where the original photographs were taken include: Banff, Lake Louise, Emerald Lake, the Yoho Valley, Vancouver, the Inside Passage, Tagish Lake, Taku Glacier, Prince Rupert, Alert Bay, Ketchikan, Dead Horse Gulch, Lake Bennett, Skagway, Carcross, and Victoria. The photo post cards include scenes on the White Pass and Yukon Route, and the Inside Passage. The commercial tourist prints contain scenes in Southeast Alaska and along the White Pass and Yukon Route.
