Biographical note:
Quinn F. Griffith was from Mobile, Alabama. He was a United States Army soldier with the 530th Quartermaster Supply Detachment, and was stationed at Adak Army Airfield in 1949.
Collection description:
The collection consists of the photographs of Quinn F. Griffith, a U.S. Army soldier stationed on Adak in 1949. The collection contains 15 black and white photographs (13 different images), plus an addressed envelope in which he sent the photographs home to his family. Subjects of the photographs include fellow soldiers, enlisted quarters, and area scenery at Adak Army Airfield, as well two locations in Europe. Two prints of particular note are elevated views of the enlisted or troop quarters area on Adak, primarily composed of quonset huts. Locations of two European prints are identified as Gatthard Pass between Italy and Switzerland, and Munich, Germany, in 1948.
