Biographical note:
Wendell Crouch lived in Anchorage during the 1950s and 1960s. He taught English and creative writing at West High School and Anchorage Community College. He was also a rare book dealer with the Book Cache in Anchorage. Wendell Crouch’s wife, Betty R. Crouch, owned and operated a women’s fashion clothing business in Anchorage. Crouch died in 1970.
Collection description:
The collection consists of letters between Wendell Crouch and United States Senators for Alaska E. L. Bartlett, Ernest Greuning, and Mike Gravel. The letters between Crouch and Senator Bartlett and his staff, dated 1964-1969, concern personal matters, politics, business, and rare books. The letters between Crouch and Senator Grueningand his staff, dated 1966 to 1967, concern the senator’s writing a preface to a special edition of his book, The State of Alaska. The letter from Senator Mike Gravel, from March 1969, concerns the testimony of Walter J. Hickel before congress. Outgoing letters from Wendell Crouch are carbon copies.
Arrangement: The letters are arranged by senator and chronologically thereunder.
