Biographical note:
Sally Irene Cole was born in Albany, Oregon on April 23, 1864. She was married twice and had two daughters by her first husband, H. Burk and her second husband, Jack Lindsay. Jack and Sally Lindsay moved to Porcupine, Alaska in 1899 where they built and operated the Lindsay Hotel. Sally Lindsay was the chief housekeeper of the hotel and was also a ladies’ tailor and practical nurse. The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1907. Some time later she and Jack Lindsay were divorced. She left Alaska in 1909. Sally Lindsay was a practical nurse and also a women’s tailor. She died in Washington in 1951.
Collection description:
This collection contains fourteen photographs concerning Sally Irene Cole Lindsay, the Lindsay Hotel, and Porcupine, Alaska. Included are exterior and interior views of the Lindsay Hotel, the town and area around Porcupine, and local residents. A majority of the photographs are undated.
