The Arctic Institute of North America was founded in 1945 as a joint American-Canadian organization in order to stimulate the orderly development of the north with concern for the environment and the quality of life of northern people. The Alaska Chapter of the Institute was organized in 1975 by Phillip Upton. Its activities included holding discussion groups and sponsoring seminars and symposiums on issues that affected the arctic region and development in the north.
Collection description:
The collection consists of the business records of the Alaska Chapter of the Arctic Institute of North America. These records include the chapter’s bylaws, goals and objectives, general correspondence, membership application cards, board meeting minutes, publications, as well as newspaper clippings concerning the chapter and its activities.
