Organizational history:
The city of Lost River was incorporated in 1972 by the Alaska Legislature, following the passage of the Development Cities Act, which provided for the development of new cities to support industry in remote areas of Alaska. The city would have been located near the Lost River Mining Corporations mining interests on the Seward Peninsula, between Brevig Mission and York. A city council was appointed by Governor Egan to oversee planning of the city. In 1974, following loss of federal funding and a decision by Lost River Mining Corporation to halt financing of the project, the city council voted to request that the legislature repeal the statutes chartering the city.
