Organizational history:
The Anchorage chapter of the Audubon Society was officially founded in 1973. The Anchorage Audubon Society is a all-volunteer non-profit chapter of the National Audubon Society. It works on the conservation of southcentral Alaska ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations. The chapter hosts regular educational meetings, sponsors birding events, and engages in conservation activities.

Collection description:
The collection consists of the records of the Anchorage Audubon chapter. It includes board meeting records, administrative and operational files, newsletters, and issue and project files.

Series 2: Newsletters; 1973-2008. 0.7 cubic feet.
The first issue of the newsletter was called News. Beginning with the second issue, the newsletter was titled Okiotak: the one who stays all winter (a reference to a gyrfalcon). In fall 2003, the newsletter name was changed to Wing Beat. Generally the newsletter was issued 8-10 times per year until Fall of 2003 when it switched to 3-4 times per year. The newsletters are arranged in chronological order by date of issue.
