Biographical note:
Thomas Jenks Porter was born in 1934 in Pasadena, California. He was a pediatrician and worked for the Public Health Service. He and his family moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1972 where he worked for the Alaska Native Medical Center. He was also affiliated with Providence Hospital. He died in Anchorage in 2019. Collection description:
The collection includes biographical materials relating to Thomas Jenks Porter such as a curriculum vitae and biographies written by family members. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence and reports related to the Alaska Newborn Project, a collaborative statewide project aimed at improving health care for infants across Alaska. The Project was largely based at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, but also included support from the State of Alaska and the U.S. Public Health Service. The collection includes records relating to annual perinatal training symposia held for medical providers.
