Esther Waldheim lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where her family owned a furniture store. She visited Alaska several times.
Collection description:
The collection primarily consists of black and white photographic prints related to Esther Waldheim’s travels to and around Alaska. Locations of the photographs include Tok, Livengood, Fairbanks, Anchorage, Wrangell, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Juneau, Skagway, Richardson Highway, Ester, Lake Bennett, Whitehorse, Carcross Landing, Dry Creek, Haines Junction, Vancouver, Victoria, and the Alaska Highway. Subjects of the images include buildings, bridges, gold panning, mining, street scenes, and tourist attractions. The collection also includes a few commercial photographs, postcards sent to her by a Fairbanks resident named George, and a Juneau tourist pamphlet. Most materials in the collection are undated.
Arrangement: The collection is in the order in which it arrived at the Archives. The photographs are roughly grouped by location.
