Organizational history:
The Sharing Community Images project was begun by the Archives in 2016. The intent of the project was to allow the Archives to engage community members in ensuring that their personal photos could be preserved and made accessible through archives. Hard copy images are scanned at a very high resolution, copies of the files given back to the donors along with the originals. The Archives retains a high resolution copy and places a low resolution copy on the Alaska’s Digital Archives site. Born-digital images are taken in by the Archives in the resolution provided.
