Biographical note:
James Schmidt lived in Anchorage, Alaska and worked for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). During the earthquake, Schmidt was in the control tower of the Anchorage airport.

Color slides taken of damage in the Anchorage area after the 1964 earthquake.
