Organizational history:
The Alpha Iota Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) was founded in November 1960 by June McEntire. It was a philanthropic sorority raising funds for national projects like St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Ester Seals. Local projects included fundraising for Alaska Psychiatric Institute, Booth Memorial Home, the Jesse Lee home, Anchorage hospitals, and military families. Efforts included fundraising events and volunteerism. The chapter ceased operations in the summer of 2019.
Collection description:
The records include board meeting minutes and agendas, yearbooks, history documents, records from the City Council of Anchorage ESA chapters, event records, photographs, programs, state convention records, member service records, member awards, banners and memorabilia.
