Nancy Lesh Collection Description

NANCY LESH (b. 1944). Papers; 1963-1988. 2.75 cu.
ft.

Nancy Lesh was born in Anchorage, Alaska. She received her
Bachelor of Arts Degree from Willamette University in Oregon and
her Masters Degree in Library Science from Simmons College in
Boston, Massachusetts. She began work in the Library at Anchorage
Community College in 1968 and soon became head of that unit. In
1973, she joined the staff of the newly completed library at the
University of Alaska, Anchorage.

The collection consists of papers created or collected by Nancy
Lesh during her years of service at Anchorage Community College
and the University of Alaska Anchorage. The papers concern the
development and activities of the ACC and UAA libraries as well
as the history and development of both institutions. Included
are correspondence, meeting minutes, annual reports, statistics,
bond and architectural information, newspaper clippings, photographs,
class schedules, and other materials. Also included are records
concerning general university policies and procedures.

This collection was presented to the archives by Nancy Lesh
in 1980. Additional materials are added periodically.

Series 1. Records Concerning

This series consist of records relating to the operation and
activities of the Anchorage Community College Library. Included
are annual reports; correspondence between the library and various
public and private individuals and vendors concerning patron
requests, book orders, library activities, circulation, and other
subjects; library statistics; memoranda; records concerning library
open houses, luncheons, and teas; and other records.

the University of Alaska Anchorage Consortium Library; 1969-1988.

This series consists of records relating to the operation and
activities of the Consortium Library of the University of Alaska
Anchorage. Included are an annual report; correspondence; memoranda;
minutes of professional, technical, and administrative staff
meetings; minutes of Library Advisory Committee meetings; minutes
of Municipal and University Librarians Roundtable meetings; reports;
Library bond and architect’s information; and other records.

Series 3. General University
Policies/Procedures; 1968-1986. .25 cu. ft. Arranged by subject.

This series consist of records relating to policies and procedures
at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Subjects included faculty
and classified staff evaluations, faculty retention, faculty
status for librarians, leave without pay, salary schedules and
procedures, and the university computer network.

Series 4. Historic Landmark
Preservation Committee; 1982-1984. .2 cu. ft. Arranged by subject.

This series consist of records relating to Nancy Lesh’s involvement
in the Historic Landmark Preservation Committee for the Anchorage
Area. Included are general meeting minutes, notes and reports
on committee activities, records of the Youth Hostel Committee,
records of Historic Anchorage, Inc., and a National Register
of Historic Places nomination report for Portage Pass.

This series consists of clippings from the Anchorage Times and
the Anchorage Daily News concerning Anchorage Community College,
the University of Alaska Anchorage, and Alaska Methodist University;
the Anchorage Community Chorus; other musical groups and events
in Anchorage; and other related subjects.

Series 6. Anchorage Community
College Class Schedules; 1964-1969, 1972. .1 cu. ft. Arranged
chronologically.

This series consists of class schedules for Anchorage Community
College taken from the Anchorage Times and the Anchorage Daily
News.

This series consists of fifty-seven photographs of classroom
and instruction activities at Anchorage Community College and
activities of the ACC library. Many of the photographs were taken
by Merrill Grube.

This series contains annual reports, shareholder annual meeting
notices, press releases, and other papers issued to shareholders
of Alaska Pacific Bancorporation.

This series consists of publications and other records relating
to Anchorage Community College, the University of Alaska Anchorage,
and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Included are programs
from the ACC building dedication, general publications, conference
and workshop schedules, a UAA history, a museum program proposal,
and a list of microfilm holdings at the University of Alaska
in Fairbanks.
